Shadow People. I use the word people loosely. This is one area that is up for debate because no one knows what they really are and where they come from. There are reports of them being around and "documented" for thousands of years.
Some believe they are time travelers, they can move through dimensions, or people moving around in astral projection, or they are Djinn. Still others believe they are spirits or other types of entities. Right there we have- 5 different theories!
I forgot extraterrestrials (E.T.).
Why am I bringing all of this up? On Sunday evening I was sitting up in bed doing my homework and kept seeing something moving in the door way out of the corner of my left eye. Stephanie (not my teammate Steph) has said she had seen something moving too, watching us. I have no reason to doubt what she told me because I was seeing something too.
I have no idea what I was seeing or what she was seeing on Sunday evening- or what she had seen after we moved in to the house last July. That's a whole other story!
If you have a shadow person story let me know in the comments!
Last week I wrote about EMF detectors and my thoughts on how they work. Not only my thoughts but it was also backed up by science. I like science because they give facts. The next thing I want to write about is smudging.
Smudging is not a new age thing but a tradition that had been used by natives from the North American continent- this goes up into Canada as well. White sage is often used in conjunction with sweet grass to help purify an area. Some believe the smoke from the sage (mixed with other herbs) can bless a person or object- depending on the desired effect.
This is not a how to guide but more of a discussion on why people believe this works.
My own goal is not to get rid of a spirit or ghost but to investigate why they are there and document evidence of their presence. I am also not trying to get anything to "cross over" that is also not in my objective. I have read through scientific journals looking for documented benefits of burning sage and the only things I could find are that it is used as an air purifier. *reference below* Unfortunately the only part of the article available is the abstract and paying $35 for the complete article is not happening today.
If you are wanting a positive vibe before moving into a home this could be for you. I have not heard positive results on using smudging to rid oneself or home of spirits- good or bad. If you've had luck let us know in the comments.
I just read this article on smudging and it made a lot of sense! In the article- that I will provide a link to- the author suggested that smudging does not get rid of spirits (I agree with that) but it can cleans the home of negative energy. So, if you have had a lot of negative experiences but not paranormal- this may be something that helps add the positive energy flow and it is up to your own beliefs to make that happen. I was reading about EMF (electromagnetic fields) and how they can be produced through natural and man-made means. From the World Health Organization website it states that electric fields are created by differences in voltage and magnetic fields are created when electricity flows. Natural EMF can come from build up of electric charges in the atmosphere before a thunderstorm. Man-made is anything we have come up with! Electrical outlets always carry some amount of EMF.
There are extremely low frequency (ELF) fields that have a large variance in frequency ranges with intermediate frequency (IF) from 300Hz to 10 MHz and radio frequency (RF) fields that range form 10 MHz to 300 GHz.
The part that I find interesting is the ELF fields and the sources of IF that are found in radio, television, radar and cell phone antennas.
What does this mean for ghost hunting? That means cell phones (and walkie talkies) on all investigations should be off, put in airplane mode, or are not on a person who is using an EMF detector. There should be no electricity flowing in a room- lights off and anything that runs off of electricity (not battery operated) should also be off. Base line readings should be taken when entering a room. Everything we do is based on best guess. There is no 100% tried and true method or piece of equipment that can be said to find paranormal activity.
I do not always reach for the EMF detector because I know there can be interference. The same goes with using a spirit box- I will not ever use one in an investigation because it uses radio frequency (white noise) to potentially hear something other worldly. It's basically listening to a radio waiting to hear something. Of course you'll hear something there are all kinds of radio frequencies being used! While that is my opinion alone- other members of the team have their own ideas and theories- I stand by my decision on not using a spirit box. Guidelines are in place for using an EMF detector.
I added an event page to the website today. Not that we have a lot going on. I really want something to happen where I can do this full time or do more of it. I have an idea that I have been working on- not only with my niece but something to get a paranormal-ish presence in Bentonville. I think it could work on Friday and Saturday nights. It'll take some time but I will update on it IF I can get it to go.
Just a small town girl living in Northwest Arkansas. I've blogged before but nothing exciting just some local MMA fights and news. Local meaning Iowa (where I'm from). I do love the paranormal which includes Big Foot and the Loch Ness Monster. And aliens.
