I was reading an article last night about the tv show Ghost Hunters. It aired on the Sy-fy channel for 11 seasons. I first saw the show in 2004, I was thinking it was shortly after I came home from Iraq, but the first episode aired October 6 and I came home in May. But I do remember not being able to sleep and it was late. I started flipping through the channels and stumbled across this show. At the time they were investigating people’s homes and trying to help the family. Was the home haunted, was something else going on, or was it the plumbing? They had an off duty police officer with them, a demonologist, a psychic and other members of the team. I’m not sure when they got away from all of that or if those members left the team for other reasons. The episode I watched was when Grant was sitting up in the attic of a lighthouse (I had to look at which episode it was Season 1 Episode 4 Race Rock Lighthouse) he had sat in the chair for only a few minutes (it may have been longer but had been edited out) and when he went to leave the video camera caught the chair he had been sitting on move on its own a few minutes after he left the room- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOz4EpJykjM
In the video link from YouTube the person was debunking this episode. It showed what the camera caught and then the other footage- the extended footage. Was it fake? I have no idea. I would like to think that it was not. I started watching this show because of that one episode. I liked that they were going into the homes of people who wanted help and needed to find out if something was going on. In the end it felt like they got away from the reason they started investigating.
There was an interview done with the case manager Donna (who left the show) and she admitted to staging being done before the team investigated. That was done to make for interesting television and to keep their ratings and viewers. That interview is on the internet and easy to find. Jason and Grant got into ghost hunting for good reasons- they both had experiences they could not explain and wanted to understand what happened. Then comes the tv show and “things happen”. They all became celebrities overnight and their show had a few spin offs that didn’t do as well as the original but were entertaining. Did they sell themselves for a buck and their 15 minutes? All signs point to yes. But there must have been some things that were caught on film and audio that were legit.
I was asked by one of my co-workers if I could knowingly fake evidence for the sake of money. He said 5 million dollars, could I do it. Honestly? No. Integrity is doing the right thing when no one is looking. Could faking evidence get me where I want to go? I think it could but it would also mean lying about something I love doing. I want to help people and the best way to do that is to start small and keep my integrity intact.
